Millions of people are bracing themselves as Hurricane Hilary approaches Southern California. The storm is expected to bring significant impacts to the region as a rare tropical storm. Parts of Southern California have been placed under a tropical storm warning for the first time in history. The hurricane has now weakened to a Category 2, with maximum sustained winds around 110 mph, after initially being a major Category 4 hurricane. The storm could potentially generate isolated tornadoes across certain areas of Southern California. Moreover, there is a risk of catastrophic and life-threatening flooding, which could result in more than a year’s worth of rain pouring over parts of the Southwest. The most severe impacts are anticipated for Sunday into Monday.
